Barcelona En Comú dóna suport a les properes mobilitzacions a Belgrad contra l'especulació urbanística del Projecte Waterfront

El 29 de setembre, el moviment "Initiative Ne da(vi)mo Beograd" (No deixem que Belgrad s'enfonsi) prendrà els carrers de la capital sèrbia amb la seva sisena gran protesta contra el projecte "Belgrade Waterfront": una inversió de 3500 milions d'euros per aixecar un megacomplex d'hotels, oficines, centres comercials i gratacels, planificat per desenvolupadors d'Abu Dhabi.

Ens sumem a la crida de Initiative Ne da(vi)mo Beograd perquè qui estigui darrere d'aquests actes criminals hagi de rendir comptes.
Belgrad no està sola en aquesta lluita; ciutats de diferents parts del món són objecte d'especulació, privatització i gentrificació, promogudes per inversors internacionals impunes, a voltes gràcies a la connivència d'elits polítiques corruptes. Com passa a Belgrad, el finançament públic a Europa es dedica a promoure els interessos de les corporacions privades, mentre els ciutadans i ciutadanes són obligades a patir l'austeritat. Barcelona En Comú supports the upcoming demonstrations in Belgrade against the urban speculation of the Waterfront Project
On 29th of September, the movement Initiative Ne da(vi)mo Beograd (Don’t let Belgrade d(r)own) will take to the streets of Belgrade for its sixth major protest against the €3.5bn Belgrade Waterfront Project, a megacomplex of condominiums, hotels, offices, shopping malls and skyscrapers, planned by property developers from Abu Dhabi.
As a municipalist movement that believes firmly that citizens should have the right to be involved in the major decisions affecting our cities, Barcelona en Comú* would like to express our support for the demonstrations of the 29th of September in Belgrade. We support all movements which, like Initiative Ne da(vi)mo Beograd, defend the fair use of common resources and which fight against urban speculation.
Barcelona en Comú is concerned by reports of evictions of residents from the Waterfront development zone, and of the destruction of buildings in the area on the night of 24 April, 2016. We join Initiative Ne da(vi)mo Beograd's call for those involved in this criminal act to be held accountable.
Belgrade is not alone in this struggle; cities across the world are being subject to speculation, privatization and gentrification, driven by unaccountable international investors, often in connivance with corrupt political elites. As in Belgrade, public financing all over Europe is being directed to promote the interests of private coorporations while citizens are made to suffer austerity. Initiative Ne da(vi)mo Beograd is an example for people in cities everywhere of how citizens can come together to reclaim our cities from below.
Our cities are for living in, not for speculating with. For democracy, for the right to housing, for the commons: on the 29th of September “Nema straha, nema predaje” (“No fear, no surrender”).
